Connections gears up for private travel event in Madeira

Event will be hosted at the five-star Reid's Palace, a Belmond Hotel

Press release: May 2022

Connections, the international private community for trusted decision-makers in luxury travel, will host its first event in Madeira from 26-29 June 2022.

Connections Luxury in Madeira will welcome up to 140 decision-makers from its luxury travel community to a new summer event. The two-day showcase will take place in Funchal, Madeira Archipelago with an interactive agenda designed to connect high-end buyers with exceptional hotels, boutique properties, experience providers and destination management companies from around the world.

Leading sponsors supporting the event include Madeira Promotion Bureau; Reid’s Palace, a Belmond Hotel; Savoy Palace; DMC Madeira and Quinta Jardins do Lago.

Luxury buyers and suppliers will meet during personalised one-to-one business appointments held in the pioneering Connections Way format – the company’s approach to facilitating long-lasting business relationships through memorable, shared experiences. Delegates will participate in a Poncha masterclass, meet Reid’s Palace’s Michelin-Star Chef, enjoy afternoon tea and Madeiran wine tasting, and have the opportunity to learn from a local wickerwork artisan.

The regional secretary for tourism and culture of Madeira Islands, and president of the Madeira Promotion Bureau, Mr. Eduardo Jesus said: “Hosting Connections Luxury in Madeira is a unique opportunity to share what our destination has to offer. Above all, it is a great moment to surprise all delegates that will attend this important event, where they will have a direct contact with our diversity, hospitality, gastronomy, cultural traditions and history. We hope this event will help us in repositioning and affirming Madeira as a destination for the luxury segment.

“Madeira has unique characteristics, and it is this identity that highlights a qualified offer at all levels, and which will be reinforced with the work we are developing in the current year relating to the 'Sustainability Certification' of the destination. In June, we aim to highlight everything that differentiates Madeira from all other destinations, and we will be delighted to welcome an important event like Connections."

In addition to shared experiences, delegates will also participate in a leadership “ConnecTALKS” session which will touch upon the latest trends and challenges facing the luxury travel industry. The event will also welcome António Paraíso, an international luxury consultant who has previously spoken at conferences for Giorgio Armani, Loewe, Porsche, Deloitte, Procter & Gamble and Leica.

Greg Reeves, managing director of Connections Luxury, said: “Madeira has a quiet confidence which is incredibly compelling for the luxury traveller and it continues to be recognised as a leading island destination, full of truly unique experiences and cultural influences.

“We’re excited to be hosting Connections Luxury in Madeira this summer, welcoming our global members to meet through a unique and dynamic agenda in a spectacular setting. We are partnering with Madeira’s finest, so anyone joining us is in for a true delight.”
